A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Progressives Youths League (CPYL), Ondo state chapter has urged the State Governor-elect, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, to give 10 percent of his appointments to the youths between ages 18 to 35 years.
The state coordinator of CPYL Mr. Adebowale Akinlosotu, stated this while speaking with reporters, shortly after Akeredolu’s transition Sub Committee on Youths and Sports submitted their reports to the steering committee.
He said the incoming government must start looking in the direction of how to empower and appoint some youths into leadership positions.
This, he said would help the state to develop his political structures.
According to him, “We must commend the effort of some our youths in this party, because their commitments was what gave us victory during the election.
“In order to boost their morale, this incoming administration must not marginalise them. He must look in their direction.
“Their activities are enormous. Some of them were always busy doing house to house campaign for the party candidate. Others were on social media defending and also enlightening our people on what they stand to gain if they cast their votes for our party.”
The APC stalwart believes that any administration that wants to strive, must appoint some youths in its cabinet.
Akinlosotu, however, appealed to Akeredolu to carry the youths along in the formation of his administration.
No fewer than 15 students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in criminal activities during a protest against the school management, DAILY POST is reporting.
DAILY POST recalls that some students on Friday embarked on a violent protest over hike in their school fees.
The protesters alleged that fresh (100 Level) students were mandated to pay an additional acceptance fee of N42,500 which brought their fee to N124,000 per student.
According to the embattled students, the fresh students still had to pay huge amounts for accommodation and course registration.
The students allegedly protested over the hike in school fees, under the charade of giving the students free Wi-Fi which they reportedly haven’t seen yet.
Following the protest, the state Police Command said the arrested students, who allegedly masterminded the protest which engulfed the university were being investigated.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Andrew Enwerem, told DAILY POST on Sunday, “I can confirm to you that about 15 students have been arrested.
“They were arrested in connection with attacks and looting of the Senate building, the Information & Computer Technology, ICT centre where computers and other information gadgets were stolen.
“The students also atacked a bank on the campus,” the PPRO noted.

Residents of Ilugoke community in Iperu Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, Friday, resisted an attempt by the Ogun State government to demolish an ongoing borehole project in the community.
The Federal Government Constituency intervention borehole project being constructed at the community was facilitated by the Chairman of House of Reps Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu.
DAILY POST gathered that Wale Oshinowo, Ogun State Commissioner for Finance, who incidentally is an indigene of the community, had led some “persons” to the site.
He had attempted to demolish the project on the ground that the contractor handling the project did not obtain proper approval before commencing work.
Our correspondent was informed that Oshinowo met stiff resistance from the people, who told him “to go back and tell Amosun (Ogun State Governor) that he cannot demolish what he didn’t construct for our community”.
A youth, who identified himself as Akinjide, said: “We have been clamouring for this project and now they want to come and destroy it because another person is doing it.
“Why do we behave like this in this country? What kind of people are in power? They just want to punish us because of political differences”, he wailed.
Sensing danger, Oshinowo aborted his mission and his convoy drove out of the scene as many restive youths gathered and threatened to mob him.
As the commisioner left, some residents of the community rained abuses on the commissioner and the APC government.
A community leader, the Oloritun of Ilugoke, Chief Aliu Fatoye, wondered why “a government that never did any project for our people would find joy in destroying a project that is supposed to make life comfortable for us.”
According to him, “For the past six years, we have had issue of lack of water; APC government did nothing and now that Honorable Ladi has brought this project to our community, the state government wants to stop it. This is unacceptable.”
He further lambasted Oshinowo for “choosing to be used to punish his own people”.
He told the crowd in Melbourne the media did not want "to report the truth" and had their own agenda.
He also defended the achievements of his presidency so far, insisting that a spirit of optimism was sweeping the US.
Mr Trump had attacked the media at a press conference on Thursday, as pressure mounted on his presidency.
His national security adviser Michael Flynn quit earlier in the week. Mr Trump is to interview candidates for the role on Sunday.
Real Madrid has set a new club record, by scoring in their 42nd consecutive game, after they defeated Espanyol 2-0 in their La Liga clash on Saturday.
Alvaro Morata headed Zinedine Zidane’s side in front, before Gareth Bale made it 2-0 with few minutes left in the match.
The goals mean Madrid have scored in every game they have played, since their goalless draw at Manchester City in April last year in the Champions League semi-final.
The previous club record stood at 41 matches and Madrid has hit the mark three times in history in 1952, 1989 and 2012.
Their new record is the best by any La Liga club, since Barcelona set their club record in a run of 44 matches between 1942 and 1944.
The Senator representing the Bayelsa East constituency has thrown his weight behind the Friday’s Appeal Court judgment, which upheld Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Bruce, a chieftain of the party said he was tired of the lingering crisis rocking the party, adding that he was ready to work with the Sheriff-led caretaker committee.
In a statement issued on Saturday and forwarded to DAILY POST, the senator called on his party men to support Sheriff for the success of the party.
He said, “Concerning the PDP, the current bickering is childish and irrelevant. I am not in support of anymore litigation.
“We will work with Ali Modu Sheriff and go to a convention. Right now, PDP is on a course towards destruction and abiding by the judgment of the court is the only thing that can save us.
“In the first place, it is never the job of the judiciary to choose the leader of a party. I, therefore, call for an end to the fighting. And I am supporting Ali Modu Sheriff because it is the only way to preserve the party. Right now, what Nigeria has is a one-party state – there is no opposition.
“Enough is enough. This is the time for PDP to unite, we are a formidable force!”

The Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, Benjamin Uwajumogu has denied the rumour making the rounds that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was collecting money from people in its current registration exercise.
In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Abuja, the lawmaker described it as concocted lies coming from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in order to halt massive migration of people into the All Progressives Congress in the South East.
“We least expect this kind of rumours, but I want to tell you that this kind of lies will not last. Nobody in the APC in the South collects money from anybody for registration.
“People are moving into the South East because they could see visibly government’s performance in the zone and this is not just propaganda, but you could see things for yourself what government is doing right now”, he noted.
Senator Uwajumogu explained that President Muhammadu Buhari awarded the contract of second Niger Bridge with 80% cash payment.
“Our memory has not failed us that the second Niger bridge was promised to be constructed in the last 17years and since then, it has been cock and bull story by PDP led administration, but this administration has started its construction and the reconstruction of Enugu – Port Harcourt road”, he explained.
He advised the people of the zone to be united in political ideology and key into the sincerity of the APC government so that the zone can benefit massively.
The new management of Arik Air has stated that the struggling airline would need over N10bn to bounce back.
According to the new management, it inherited nearly an empty shell of a carrier with only 10 out of the 28 aircraft in its fleet functional at the moment.
It was gathered that only 10 out of the 28 aircraft in the fleet of the airlines were operational, with 18 either grounded or had gone for C-check in Europe.
The Capt. Roy Ilegbodu led management said in a statement on Sunday, “As if these problems are not enough, the airline does not have money to procure aviation fuel for the nine operational aircraft because no dealer wants to sell aviation fuel to Arik except it is on a cash-and-carry basis.
“This also calls for public understanding because flight schedules may be realigned based on the nine aircraft that are available and are technically sound and ready for flight operations.
“All these problems, in addition to huge staff salaries, which have remained unpaid for 11 months, and vendors that supply different items to Arik Air who are also owed, meant that Nigerians may have to tarry a while to allow the new management clean up the huge mess at the airline before Arik will finally resume uninterrupted flights.”
